Eczema In Babies

Learn More About Eczema in Babies and How to Give Your Little One an Itch Free Life

Eczema is a dermatological problem that causes redness, swelling, inflammation in the afflicted area and gives rise to an uncontrollable desire to scratch the itching area. Many young children, especially babies fall prey to eczema and the situation can be quite painful and uncomfortable for the little one if you don’t do something about it soon.

But it is also true that eczema babies out grow this dermatological problem by the time they enter their 5th birthday, and therefore you need not worry your head off over it.

Eczema in babies

Eczema in babies can have various degrees of severity. The danger with mild eczema is that it is hardly accompanied by any symptoms, so spotting it becomes next to impossible until your baby suffers from a flare up.

But you can remain alert beforehand and look at the creases of skin inside the elbows, behind the knees, the inner fold of the joint where the legs are attached to the body, regularly subjected to abrasion because of clothes, nappies, and diapers etc. This last region is very vulnerable for eczema.

If your baby has eczema, he will display some signs of discomfort – major or minor – especially during nighttime. When the eczema becomes severe, there will be big blotches of red in the afflicted portion and the surface of the skin there can be either smooth or rough and slightly raised. In very severe cases, the red blotches might weep due to infection.

Eczema patches can be pretty irritable and your baby will want to scratch himself, especially if the weather is hot and humid at night time. The red inflammation can disappear without warning or get aggravated within a few hours or change overnight.

Try to eliminate triggers after keeping your baby under observation.
