Eczema in infants
Infantile eczema can be of various types but the most widespread one is the atopic variety, commonly seen in infants and children.
Infants can suffer from minor to major eczema, the symptoms of which vary from slight redness and mild itching to severe and big red blotches, irritation, inflammation that can at times weep due to infection and the infant will try to scratch the affected region to relieve himself.
The symptoms and signs worsen when the weather is hot and humid especially during the night. It is important for parents to be alert and keep a careful vigil on the creases of the skin in the elbows, behind the knees, in the inner folds of the leg joints which are particularly susceptible to eczema because of abrasion with clothes, nappies, diapers and because the region remains covered.
Mild eczema is difficult to spot because the symptoms are slight and not noticeable and therefore being alert beforehand can save your tiny tot a lot of discomfort.
Eczema rashes can appear or disappear overnight without any rhyme or reason because of allergic triggers, can swell up and get aggravated or subside on its own within a space of few hours.
When eczema in infants becomes worse, severe and big red patches start to weep because of infection and it is called wet eczema and the immunity system of the infantile skin is broken down, leading to the affliction.
Try to keep your infant away from allergens and triggers and temperature and humidity fluctuations to keep eczema under control.
